As first reported by Chris Cotillo of SB Nation, the Brewers have re-signed infielder Hernan Perez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Cotillo notes that the Tigers were also expressing interest in Perez.
The 24-year-old batted .270/.281/.365 with one home run and 21 RBI in 90 games this past season for Milwaukee while making appearances defensively at second base, third base, first base, and shortstop. He is a .235/.251/.307 career hitter in 351 career plate appearances at the major league level.
Barring some major additions this offseason, Perez has a pretty good shot at cracking the Brewers’ Opening Day roster in 2016 as a utilityman.
