Mark Kotsay is joining manager Bob Melvin’s staff as the A’s new bench coach, according to Joe Stiglich of CSNCalifornia.com.

Kotsay will take over for Mike Aldrete, who’s moving to first base coach following the departure of Tye Walker. He previously served as the Padres’ hitting coach this season, but parted ways last month.

Prior to getting into coaching Kotsay played 17 seasons in the majors, including four years with the A’s from 2004-2007. He hit .276 with 127 homers, 98 steals, and a .737 OPS in 1,914 games along with excellent defense in center field.
