Rick Renteria was let go after one just season as Cubs manager when the team decided to move on to Joe Maddon last offseason, but he’s apparently on his way back to Chicago. This time on the South Side of town.
Dan Hayes of CSNChicago.com hears from a baseball source White Sox are “close” to naming Renteria as Robin Ventura’s new bench coach. White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said at the GM Meetings on Monday that he’s “optimistic” the team will make an announcement on a hire this week. Prior to managing the Cubs, Renteria was the bench coach for the Padres from 2011-2013. He sat out the 2015 season after parting ways with Chicago.
The White Sox are currently seeking a replacement for Mark Parent, who was fired in October. Parent was an original member of Ventura’s staff.
