The Nexen Heroes of the KBO League have accepted a $12.85 million bid from a currently unknown team on the rights to negotiate a contract with power-hitting first baseman Byung-ho Park, according to Naver Sports. The winning team — expected to be revealed by Tuesday — now has 30 days to work out a contract with Park. If the two sides cannot reach an agreement, Nexen would not get the posting fee.
Park, 29, has posted back-to-back 50-homer seasons. This past year, he hit .343/.436/.714 with 146 RBI in 622 plate appearances. It’s worth noting that the KBO competition isn’t major league-caliber, but the slugger’s numbers are impressive nevertheless.
Park was teammates with current Pirates 3B/SS and current Naitonal League Rookie of the Year candidate Jung Ho Kang. Kang hit 40 home runs with Nexen in 2014.
