Yordano Ventura has been in the middle of a handful of conflicts this year, and that certainly didn’t earn him the benefit of the doubt when MLB.com’s Gregor Chisholm reported that the Royals’ right-hander got into it with Jays first base coach Tim Leiper during ALCS Game 6.

However, the FOX broadcast showed Leiper jawing at Ventura first (presumably), then making a gesture for the pitcher to zip his lips. ESPN’s Buster Olney noted that an unnamed scout told him his team’s strategy was to put Ventura on tilt. That may have been what Leiper was aiming to do.

Ventura exited with one out in the sixth inning after allowing a double to Edwin Encarnacion. Reliever Kelvin Herrera entered and saw his way out of the frame with a strikeout of Chris Colabello and a fly out from Troy Tulowitzki.

The Royals currently hold a 2-1 lead, so they’re just three innings away from advancing to the World Series if they hang on.
