Nationals bring back Bud Black, Dusty Baker for second interviews

At least seven candidates have interviewed to be the Nationals’ new manager and James Wagner of the Washington Post reports that the team is bringing back Dusty Baker and Bud Black for second interviews.

Not surprisingly general manager Mike Rizzo seems to be targeting candidates with lots of previous managing experience after things turned sour with first-time manager Matt Williams.

Black managed the Padres for 1,362 games before being fired at midseason, going 649-713 (.477). Baker managed the Giants, Cubs, and Reds for a total of 20 seasons, going 1,671-1,504 (.526) with three Manager of the Year awards.

Wagner also notes that Williams’ bench coach Randy Knorr, a popular choice among current Nationals players, has not been brought in for an interview and seemingly is not in the mix for the job.
