With a spot in the NLCS on the line, the Mets and Dodgers will meet in Game 5 of the NLDS tonight at Dodger Stadium. It’s expected to be all hands on deck for the do-or-die contest, but Dodgers manager Don Mattingly declined to say this afternoon whether Clayton Kershaw will be available to pitch in relief.
The hesitation is understandable, as Kershaw just threw 94 pitches in Game 4 on Tuesday. And he was making that start on three days’ rest. Still, if Mattingly needs a bridge from Zack Greinke to closer Kenley Jansen, one would think that there’s a good chance we’ll see him. The rest of that bullpen has looked shaky.
Kershaw hasn’t made a relief appearance since the 2009 postseason.
