Dodgers to start Clayton Kershaw on short rest in Game 4

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly announced that left-hander Clayton Kershaw will start Game 4 of the NLDS against the Mets on short rest Tuesday night regardless of what happens tonight in Game 3.

Mattingly has done the exact same thing with Kershaw in each of the past two postseasons and when asked about doing so again this time around he sarcastically replied: “Do I have to explain that one?”

Kershaw’s uneven postseason history may cause some people to be surprised at Mattingly’s decision, but starting the best pitcher on the planet on short rest in Game 4 of a series so that you can then start Zack Greinke in Game 5 if needed certainly makes plenty of sense.
