Update (6:18 PM EDT): Carlos Gomez tacked on with an RBI single with two outs in the top of the sixth against Volquez. The Astros now enjoy a 3-1 lead.
Royals starter Edinson Volquez had been dominating the Astros through the first four innings of ALDS Game 3 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. But the Astros finally broke through with one out in the bottom of the fifth, using a Luis Valbuena walk and a Chris Carter double to left field followed by Jason Castro‘s two-run single up the middle to take a 2-1 lead.
The Royals scored their lone run when Lorenzo Cain hit a no-doubt home run to left field off of Astros starter Dallas Keuchel in the top of the fourth.
Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. scaled the center field fence to rob Padres shortstop Luis Urías of a solo home run in the fourth inning of Sunday afternoon’s game. Urías was trying to take advantage of a 0-1 slider from Ryan Brasier. Had Bradley not made the grab, the Padres’ lead would have been extended to 4-1.
Unfortunately for the Red Sox, they weren’t able to take advantage of Bradley’s effort, dropping Sunday’s contest 3-1. They still won the series against the Padres, however. The Sox will continue their road trip for two games against the Rockies followed by three versus the Angels.
