After Mets general manager Sandy Alderson acknowledged on Friday that “the concern level has certainly gone up” with Steven Matz‘s lingering back injury, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the southpaw has received an injection in a last-ditch effort to get him ready for the NLDS against the Dodgers.
Matz was originally scheduled to start Wednesday against the Phillies, but he was pushed back a day after coming down with some back soreness. He was then scratched again, with the hope that he’d be ready to pitch out of the bullpen this weekend. However, the injury hasn’t responded well so far and he’s running out of time to prove his readiness.
The Mets were looking at Matz to be their Game 4 starter, but Bartolo Colon would get the assignment if he’s not ready.
