Marlins announce Giancarlo Stanton won’t play again this season

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton has been on the disabled list since June hand surgery and the team announced that he will not return before the end of the season.

This is the second straight year in which Stanton has finished the season on the disabled list, as he missed the final three weeks of 2014 after being hit in the face by a pitch.

He ends this season batting .265 with 27 homers and a .952 OPS in 74 games. Extrapolating those numbers to 150 games would put Stanton at 55 homers and 140 RBIs, and his .952 OPS is the second-highest of his career.
