Adam Wainwright‘s rapid return from a torn left Achilles tendon marches on.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Wainwright threw another simulated game and tested himself with fielding work this afternoon at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. The next step? Game action, at least if he responds well from today’s activity. The veteran right-hander could make his return as soon as Wednesday, which adds another interesting storyline to this week’s big three-game series against the Pirates.
Wainwright was originally expected to miss the remainder of the season after tearing his Achilles tendon on April 25, but he could be a big weapon out of the bullpen during the postseason.
