Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter made an early exit from Saturday’s win over the Brewers after experiencing tightness in his left hip. Yet another major injury for St. Louis?

Mercifully, that early departure appears to have been completely precautionary.

Carpenter is back in the Cardinals’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s series finale versus Milwaukee, batting leadoff and handling the hot corner behind right-hander John Lackey.

Carpenter may still have some discomfort in his hip, but it’s apparently manageable.

The 29-year-old is batting .266/.361/.487 with 26 home runs, 41 doubles, 82 RBI, and 94 runs scored in 149 games this season for the leaders of the loaded National League Central.
