Mets infielder Juan Uribe aggravated a chest injury during an at-bat last night against the Reds and Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports that there’s now concern that he won’t be ready for the start of the postseason.
Uribe suffered a chest contusion when he dove for a ground ball last Sunday against the Yankees and has been limited to pinch-hitting duties since. The exact nature of the injury isn’t clear, but he was in a lot of pain after a check-swing last night.
Uribe has had his share of big postseason moments in the past and was expected to serve a prominent role off the Mets’ bench. If he needs to miss the NLDS, the Mets could carry Eric Young, Jr. as a pinch-running specialist.
