Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy suffered a concussion when he was hit by a foul tip on September 8 and he was making little progress last week, but Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports that he has been officially cleared to return to game action.
Lucroy won’t catch again this season for precautionary reasons. However, he’s available off the bench Thursday and could play some first base over the final week and a half of the season.
This has been a frustrating year for Lucroy, who also missed six weeks during the first half with a broken toe. The 29-year-old was finally looking more like himself prior to the concussion, but he’s batting just .259 with a .712 OPS overall this season. He had an .831 OPS from 2012-2014.
