Omar Infante out 2-3 weeks with strained oblique muscle

Royals second baseman Omar Infante is expected to miss 2-3 weeks with a strained oblique muscle, potentially knocking him out for the remainder of the season.

It’s not much of a loss for the Royals, however, because a) Infante has hit just .220 with a .554 OPS this season, and b) trade deadline pickup Ben Zobrist has taken over as the primary second baseman of late anyway.

As part of an incredibly regrettable four-year, $30.25 million contract Infante is making $7.5 million this season and is owed a total of $17.75 million for 2016 and 2017. Zobrist is an impending free agent.
