Mark Melancon earns franchise-record 47th save

Congratulations are in order for Pirates closer Mark Melancon, who nailed down his 47th save of the season in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Dodger Stadium to take over the franchise record for most converted saves in a single year.

Mike Williams tallied 46 saves for the Bucs back in 2002. That team, however, finished 72-89.

Melancon boasts a 1.94 ERA in 69 2/3 innings for the 2015 edition of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are clinging to the top National League Wild Card spot by one game entering play Sunday.
