The other day I linked a New York Times story detailing the Yoenis Cespedes trade from the Mets’ point of view. Yesterday, at ESPN, Gordon Edes wrote about it from the Tigers point of view. Which he has some good access to as a Boston writer given that ex-Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski is now with the Sox.
This one may ben even better than the Times’ piece as it talks about the Tigers’ long-term pursuit of Cespedes, going back to his initial signing after he left Cuba and continuing through the trade with the Red Sox.
News of a trade is fun, but fleeting as it’s only basic information which everyone will know immediately. Background on a trade is way more engrossing. I’d love to read a whole book of stories of notable trades.
