Rangers center fielder Delino DeShields Jr. suffered a mild left knee sprain while trying to steal third base in the top of the seventh inning Monday against the Mariners and is out of Texas’ starting lineup on Tuesday.
Will Venable will start in center and bat leadoff.
DeShields looked to be in a good deal of pain on Monday in Seattle, but he told reporters that he is aiming to return to action Wednesday.
This is crunch time for the Rangers, who entered play Tuesday with a flimsy 1 1/2 game lead on the second American League Wild Card spot. DeShields has been a nice surprise in 2015, slashing .256/.344/.375 with 22 stolen bases and 63 runs scored in 99 games played.
