Settling the Score: Saturday’s results

The drama continues in the AL Wild Card race.

Ervin Santana struck out 11 batters over eight innings of one-run ball and Eddie Rosario hit a go-ahead two-run triple in the top of the ninth as the Twins topped the American League West-leading Astros 3-2 on Saturday night in Houston. Santana was also terrific last Sunday versus Houston, racking up 10 strikeouts over seven scoreless frames in a big 7-5 victory for the Twins. Minnesota is 1 1/2 games back of the Rangers for the second Wild Card spot. Texas beat Anaheim 2-1 on Saturday behind another terrific Derek Holland outing, dropping the Angels to 3 1/2 games back in the AL Wild Card chase.

Compare this to the National League Wild Card scene, where the Cubs are 7 1/2 games ahead of the next closest team for the second spot and the Pirates stand three games up on Chicago for the top spot.
