The Padres have claimed lefty reliever Chris Rearick off waivers from the Rangers, the club announced on Twitter on Sunday. Lefty reliever Caleb Thielbar was designated for assignment to create 40-man roster space. Rearick was optioned to Double-A San Antonio.
Rearick, 27, was designated for assignment by the Padres on August 21 and claimed by the Rangers on the 26th. It’s as if he never left.
Rearick made only five appearances in the majors for the Padres this season, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in three innings. At Triple-A, he threw one scoreless inning for the Rangers at Round Rock, and posted posted a 5.23 ERA in 43 innings at El Paso (Padres).
