Betancourt underwent Tommy John elbow surgery in late 2013 and did not make an appearance at the major league level in 2014, but the Rockies invited him to camp this spring and he made the Opening Day roster after a strong showing in the Cactus League. Now the 40-year-old reliever hits the waiver wire having registered a 6.18 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 40/12 K/BB ratio across 39 1/3 regular-season innings. The strikeout-to-walk clip might draw attention from other teams, but this could be Betancourt’s swan song either way.
