Drew Stubbs released by the Rockies

Colorado has released Drew Stubbs after designating the 30-year-old outfielder for assignment last week, meaning the Rockies are on the hook for his entire $5.8 million salary.

Stubbs had a nice 2014 campaign, showing his usual power-speed combo while finally hitting for a decent batting average, but he fell apart this year while hitting just .216.

As a career .245 hitter with a sky-high strikeout rate Stubbs is stretched as a regular, but he has the power, speed, and defense to be a solid fourth outfielder and should be able to find a home down the stretch now that he’s available for the minimum salary.
