Justin Masterson released by the Red Sox

Justin Masterson and his $9.5 million contract predictably passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the Red Sox and the veteran right-hander has now been released.

That means Masterson is free to sign with any team for whatever contract he can get after posting a 5.61 ERA in 59 innings for the Red Sox split between the rotation and bullpen.

He should be able to latch on somewhere as a middle reliever, but Masterson will probably be looking at an incentive-laden deal this offseason.

Longtime Angels and Cardinals outfielder Jim Edmonds shared on his Instagram story that he is being tested for coronavirus.

The four-time All-Star, who now works as a broadcaster for Fox Sports Midwest, has not posted an update on the results of his test.

If you want to learn more about COVID-19 or think you might need to be tested, give the CDC’s site about the virus a read. Informing yourself is the most important step. Washing your hands and staying home, if possible, is the best way to protect yourself.
