Jose Valverde suspended 80 games for PEDs

Veteran reliever and current free agent Jose Valverde has been suspended 80 games by MLB following a positive test for the performance-enhancing drug Stanozolol.

He’s a three-time All-Star who saved 35 games as recently as 2012, but has bounced around a ton since then and hasn’t pitched in the majors at all this season.

In the past two calendar years he’s been let go by the Tigers, Mets, Padres, and Nationals, who released Valverde from a minor-league contract three weeks ago. At age 37 this could be the end of the line for Papa Grande.
