Red Sox outfielder Hanley Ramirez was held out of action on Saturday after fouling a ball off his left foot in Friday’s series opener against the Tigers. And he is out of Boston’s starting lineup again on Sunday.
X-rays taken Saturday morning turned up negative, so this isn’t anything major. But the 31-year-old slugger obviously has a pretty bad bruise.
Ramirez has registered 19 home runs and 53 RBI in 97 games this season, though he hasn’t gone yard since before the All-Star break. That is a stretch of 86 plate appearances without a home run.
Hanley is currently sporting a .302 OBP in 397 total plate appearances for the 49-62 Red Sox.
His career on-base percentage before the start of the 2015 season was .373.
