Report: The Diamondbacks have made an offer for Aroldis Chapman

It was reported earlier this week that the Diamondbacks were talking to the Reds about closer Aroldis Chapman and CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman now hears that they have made an offer and are awaiting a reply.

The Diamondbacks would need to go on a big run to make the playoffs, so Chapman is an odd fit for them. A closer is a luxury in such a situation, which is why the Reds are exploring offers for him. However, it’s clear that Cincinnati will have to be overwhelmed in order to make a deal.

Chapman is making $8.05 million this season and will go through arbitration one more time before becoming a free agent after the 2016 season.

There have been three walkoff grand slams in the past week

Last night Jason Kipnis led the Indians to victory over the Chicago White Sox via a walkoff grand slam. Such a beast is a pretty special, but lately they’ve been surprisingly common. Indeed, Kipnis’ walkoff slam was the third one in the space of a week.

Francisco Mejia of the Padres hit a walkoff salami on Sunday afternoon to lead San Diego over the Texas Rangers. Sal Perez of the Royals did the deed on Friday against the Twins.

As Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com tweeted this morning, there were only two walkoff grand slams in the entire 2016 season. Having three in a week is pretty darn cool, eh?
