Rookie League manager screws up and is forced to use three position players to pitch

Former infielder Luis Rivera is the manager of the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League. They were playing against Bluefield and Rivera neglected to list all but one of his relief pitchers on his lineup card. As a result, the Kingsport Times-News reports, he was forced to use position players Jose Figuera, Luis Ortega and Gregory Valencia as pitchers in the game.

Sometimes that works out OK. This time it didn’t. The three position players combined for seven walks and zero strikeouts. Figuera gave up six runs on his own. Ortega allowed a homer. Valencia allowed two unearned runs.
