Dodgers reliever Paco Rodriguez to miss 8-10 weeks after elbow surgery

The Dodgers announced this afternoon that reliever Paco Rodriguez is slated to undergo surgery next Thursday to remove loose bodies from the back of his left elbow. The expectation is that he’ll miss 8-10 weeks.

A second-round pick from 2012, Rodriguez impressed with a 2.21 ERA and 10.2 K/9 over his first 87 appearances with the Dodgers, but he showed diminished velocity between the majors and minors last season while also missing some time with a teres major muscle sprain. The 24-year-old began this season in the Dodgers’ bullpen and posted a 2.61 ERA and 8/3 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings before going on the disabled list a month ago with what was termed as a left elbow strain.

Given Rodriguez’s timeline, the soonest he could contribute in the Dodgers’ bullpen again would be early-to-mid September. A setback could put him on the shelf for the rest of the year.
