Jhoulys Chacin opts out of contract with Indians

Right-hander Jhoulys Chacin asked for and was granted his release by the Indians, who had been using him as a starter on their Triple-A team.

Chacin showed a lot of promise early in his career with the Rockies and was a very solid starter for Colorado from 2010-2013, but he was let go during spring training following an ugly, injury filled 2014 season and has spent all of this year in the minors.

Chacin had a nice-looking 3.21 ERA in seven Triple-A starts, but his 25/15 K/BB ratio in 42 innings was unimpressive.
