It turns out things can get even worse for the Phillies in the midst of a nine-game losing streak, as the team just announced that left-hander Cole Hamels will miss his scheduled Friday start against the Cardinals with a strained hamstring.
Hamels has been his usual outstanding, No. 1 starter self in the face of constant trade speculation, throwing a league-leading 94 innings with a 2.96 ERA and 103/31 K/BB ratio.
He shut out the Pirates for seven innings on Sunday, striking out 12 and walking one in yet another no-decision due to terrible run support from Philadelphia’s lineup.
Phillippe Aumont will make the spot start in Hamels’ absence after pitching exclusively out of the bullpen for his first 45 career appearances.
