From Jim Callis of MLB.com comes word that the Twins have reached agreement with their first-round pick in the 2015 draft, University of Illinois left-hander Tyler Jay. He will get a $3,889,500 bonus, which is the exact recommended figure for the sixth overall pick — where Jay was selected.

Jay was a dominant late-inning reliever for the Fighting Illini, posting a 0.60 ERA, 0.61 WHIP, 1.04 BB/9 and 10.44 K/9 across 60 1/3 frames, but he’s expected to be tried as a starting pitcher in the Twins’ minor league system.

Jay will begin his professional career at High-A Fort Myers, skipping over rookie ball and the club’s Low-A affiliates.
