Florida high school shortstop and No. 3 overall pick Brendan Rodgers has signed with the Rockies for a below-slot deal.
Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com reports that he’ll receive $5.5 million, compared to the recommended slot bonus of $6.3 million for the third pick.
Baseball America rated Rodgers as the top prospect in the draft class, but he went third behind two college shortstops in Dansby Swanson of Vanderbilt and Alex Bregman of LSU. Neither of them have signed yet.
