The Phillies are targeting Andy MacPhail as their next team president

Jim Salisbury of reports that the Phillies are targeting¬†Andy MacPhail as “a potential new leader” of the franchise.

One presumes that would be as team president, not GM, given that (a) MacPhail was recently the Orioles’ president and guys like him tend not to take demotions; and (b) Pat Gillick has said he does not intend to remain Phillies team president very long.

What this means for Ruben Amaro is unclear, but given that MacPhail had great success — even if it was under-appreciated at the time — in rebuilding the Orioles, you’d have to assume that he’d take an active lead in rebuilding the Phillies should they decide to hire him.
