Mets say David Wright returning before the All-Star break is a “realistic possibility”

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson (via Mike Vorkunov of the Newark Star Ledger) said today that third baseman David Wright rejoining the team before the All-Star break is a “realistic possibility.”

Wright has been out since April with a hamstring injury followed by the diagnosis of spinal stenosis, seemingly putting his future very much in doubt. However, according to Alderson the Mets think he has a chance to complete a minor-league rehab assignment and come off the disabled list by the middle of July, which suggests he’s close to being cleared for minor-league games.

Wright had a career-worst season in 2014 and played just eight games before going on the disabled list this season, but from 2004-2013 he made seven All-Star teams and ranked as one of the best third basemen in baseball.
