Rockies reliever Rafael Betancourt has “vertigo symptoms”

Rafael Betancourt successfully returned from Tommy John elbow surgery at age 40 and even resumed closing some games for the Rockies, but now he’s been placed on the disabled list with what the team is calling vertigo symptoms.

Betancourt’s elbow is fine, but he’s struggled recently while dealing with a sinus infection and told Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post that he’s been “feeling sick and weak” since mid-May.

As recently as one week ago Betancourt had a 3.44 ERA for the season, showing that he can still be very effective with a 19/3 K/BB ratio, but then he allowed seven runs in two appearances to inflate his ERA to 6.30.
