Masahiro Tanaka comes off disabled list, rejoins Yankees

Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka is back from the disabled list after missing six weeks with a strained forearm and will start tonight against the Mariners.

Tanaka was hardly impressive on a brief minor-league rehab assignment, but the Yankees decided to bring him back quickly anyway and he’s expected to be on a limited pitch count of 80-85 versus Seattle.

While he didn’t quite look like his pre-injury 2014 self, Tanaka generally pitched well in four starts this season before being shut down again, logging 22 innings with a 3.22 ERA and 24/7 K/BB ratio.

Giancarlo Stanton is out of the lineup for today’s Astros-Yankees game for the second consecutive day due to a quad strain. The Yankees have yet to take him off the roster completely because, if they did so, he’d be ineligible to play in the World Series should the Yankees advance, so for the time being New York will play shorthanded once again.
