On Thursday, we learned that former Rays reliever Grant Balfour was considering retiring after opting out of his minor league deal on Wednesday. It sounds like he has reconsidered, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Balfour still wants to pitch in the majors and is considering a few options.
Balfour, 37, allowed three runs on three hits and four walks with no strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings in the majors with the Rays this season. All three runs came in one appearance against the Yankees on April 18. With Triple-A Durham, Balfour’s results were better, allowing three runs on nine hits and four walks with 11 strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings.
