Diamondbacks release Kevin Frandsen

The Diamondbacks have released utilityman Kevin Frandsen, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The two sides had agreed to a minor league deal in April.

Frandsen, 33, hit .309/.352/.333 with only two extra-base hits (both doubles) in 89 plate appearances with Triple-A Reno. The veteran of eight seasons plays first, second, and third base as well as corner outfield, but the Diamondbacks have depth at all of those positions and Frandsen wasn’t a consideration for a call-up anytime soon.

Frandsen, now a free agent, will look to extend his playing career elsewhere.
