Jarrod Saltalamacchia was cut loose by the Marlins earlier this month after proving to be a disappointment in his three-year, $21 million contract, but he quickly latched on with the Diamondbacks on a minor league deal and Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports that he’s expected to be called up from Triple-A Reno tomorrow.
The news comes just one day after starting catcher Tuffy Gosewisch jammed his left knee. It’s probably safe to say that he’s headed to the disabled list.
Saltalamacchia had just two hits over his first 29 at-bats this season prior to being released and owns a lowly .661 OPS in 123 games dating back to the start of last season. Some fans clamored for prospect Peter O’Brien to get the call-up instead, but he had issues throwing this spring and there are questions about his ability to stick behind the plate.
