Video: Justin Upton rips a grand slam to put the Padres up early

Padres outfielder Justin Upton belted a grand slam to center field to give the Padres an early 4-0 lead in the first inning on Sunday afternoon. Starter Carlos Frias threw a 2-2 fastball that Upton didn’t miss.

In the second inning, Upton hit a two-run double to give him six RBI in his first two at-bats. He went hitless in his next two trips to the plate before being lifted in the seventh inning. Upton is batting .284/.343/.562 with 12 home runs and 35 RBI on the season.

The Padres scored once in the third, and another in the fifth to take a 10-0 lead and held on for an 11-3 win. The Padres, 20-24 entering Sunday, had been held to two runs or fewer in four consecutive games.
