Rangers sign Jared Burton to a minor league contract

The Rangers have signed pitcher Jared Burton to a minor league contract, executive VP of communications John Blake tweeted on Sunday afternoon. Burton signed with the Yankees in February, was released on March 26, re-signed with the Yankees on the 29th, and was released again on May 16.

Burton, 33, has a career 3.44 ERA with a 305/136 K/BB ratio over 361 innings in the major leagues. He was an effective set-up man for the Twins in 2012 and ’13 before struggling last season, when he had a diminished ability to miss bats and lower fastball velocity.

Burton will report to Triple-A Round Rock and will serve as bullpen depth for the Rangers.
