Following Saturday afternoon’s loss to the Twins, the Rays activated infielder Nick Franklin from the 15-day disabled list. To make room for him, pitcher Andrew Bellatti was optioned to Triple-A Durham.
Franklin suffered a strained left oblique towards the end of spring training, so he opened the season on the disabled list. He was expected to serve as the Rays’ everyday second baseman. In his absence, the Rays have used Tim Beckham and Logan Forsythe at the position. It’s unclear how the Rays plan to utilize Franklin going forward. Beckham has struggled, but Forsythe has hit well, owning an .835 OPS entering Saturday’s action.
