Giants sign Tommy Hanson to minor league contract

From John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle comes word that the Giants have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with righty Tommy Hanson.

Hanson was considered one of the best young starting pitchers in baseball in 2009-2011, when he registered an outstanding 3.28 ERA, 1.175 WHIP, and 8.4 K/9 in 460 1/3 innings with the Braves. But he hasn’t appeared in a major league game since September 2013 and he posted dreadful numbers last season for the Triple-A affiliate of the White Sox.

Hanson, now 28 years old, is nothing more than a reclamation project for San Francisco.
