Ben Zobrist close to starting a rehab assignment


A’s infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist has been testing his surgically repaired left knee with agility drills and Joe Stiglich of reports that he could be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment as soon as Monday.

Zobrist has been on the disabled list since April 25 and was initially given a 4-6 week recovery timetable, with Eric Sogard serving as the A’s primary second baseman in his absence.

Zobrist hit .240 with one homer and a .704 OPS in 14 games before being shut down, seeing time at second base and both outfield corners.
