Athletics acquire Edward Mujica from the Red Sox

8 Comments’s Jane Lee reports that the Athletics have acquired reliever Edward Mujica from the Red Sox in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. The Athletics moved pitcher Jarrod Parker to the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 40-man roster for Mujica. A corresponding move will be made to fit Mujica into the 25-man roster when he reports, Lee adds.

Mujica, 30, was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Friday. He struggled, posting a 4.61 ERA with an 8/3 K/BB ratio in 13 2/3 innings. The Athletics’ bullpen has been terrible thus far as their 5.29 ERA is the worst in the American League. A change of scenery for Mujica and a fresh face for the A’s could be exactly what each side needs.
