Adam Ottavino undergoes Tommy John surgery

Adam Ottavino was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right elbow earlier this week and Nick Groke of the Denver Post reports that he underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery this morning.

The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews and Ottavino said that “everything went as expected.” The rehab process figures to keep him sidelined through the early part of the 2016 season.

Ottavino appeared poised for a breakthrough as Colorado’s closer this season, but surgery means that he’ll finish the year with a spotless 0.00 ERA over 10 1/3 innings to go along with a 13/2 K/BB ratio. John Axford is now handling save chances for Walt Weiss’ club.
