Report: Brewers hire Craig Counsell to replace Ron Roenicke

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Brewers have hired Craig Counsell as their new manager. The club fired Ron Roenicke on Sunday night.

Counsell retired in January 2012, ending a major league career that spanned 1995-2011. He spent most of his career playing at second base, shortstop, and third base. He hit .255/.342/.344 with 42 home runs, 390 RBI, and 103 stolen bases in 5,488 plate appearances. After retiring, Counsell served as a special assistant to GM Doug Melvin.

The 7-18 Brewers have the worst record in baseball and are currently 11.5 games behind the first-place Cardinals.
