Homer Bailey may need surgery, “will be sidelined for much longer” than two weeks

Homer Bailey has already been placed on the disabled list with a sprained elbow and Reds manager Bryan Price admitted today that surgery may be needed.

Bailey will undergo further testing, but Price met with the local media before tonight’s game and the Associated Press writes that “he will be sidelined for much longer” than the minimum 15-day DL stint even if surgery isn’t required.

In other words, it’s another serious arm injury for the 29-year-old right-hander who began the season on the DL following September surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon.

Bailey is in the second season of a $105 million contract extension.
