Jose Bautista injured his right shoulder on Tuesday, attempting to throw out Delmon Young at first base from right field. As a result, he was held out of the lineup both on Wednesday and Thursday. There was some thought that Bautista would need a stint on the 15-day disabled list, but that has changed, as Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith reports.
Manager John Gibbons said of Bautista, “I don’t think we’re going to have to DL him. He feels much better today.”
That’s good news for the Jays, who would sorely miss Bautista’s bat in the lineup. He’s carrying a lopsided .149/.322/.426 triple-slash line with four home runs and 10 RBI in 59 plate appearances. Bautista will likely test his shoulder prior to Friday night’s game against the Rays and the club will progress from there.
